SHS Trusted Adults
Trusted Adults
A trusted adult is someone students can turn to for help, advice, support, or simply someone to listen. Trusted adults help students make good choices, work through challenges, and stay safe. They respect students' privacy while understanding that they may need to seek additional help if a student is in danger.
Why Trusted Adults Matter
Students may face challenges involving school, friendships, safety, or personal concerns. A trusted adult provides someone to listen, offer guidance, and help determine next steps.
Who Can Be a Trusted Adult?
A trusted adult at school may be a:
- Teacher
- Counselor
- Coach
- School nurse
- Assistant principal or principal
- Other staff member a student knows and trusts
Choosing a Trusted Adult
Students are encouraged to identify an adult who listens without judgment, treats them with respect, makes them feel comfortable asking for help, and cares about their safety and well-being.
See Something, Say Something
Students who see, hear, or experience something concerning should tell a trusted adult. Reports may also be made in the front office, where an assistant principal or counselor is available to help.
Concerns may include bullying, cyberbullying, fighting, threats, or other behavior that could affect the safety or well-being of students or staff.
Bullying, cyberbullying, fighting, or inciting a fight may result in disciplinary action, including placement in the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
Every student should know there is someone on campus they can turn to for help.
