SHS Tardy Guidelines

Tardy Guidelines

It is very important that students arrive at class on time. In order to prompt student attendance, the following procedures will be used:

  1. Students are to be in class before the tardy bell rings.
  2. Teachers will close classroom doors at the sound of the tardy bell.
  3. Students who are tardy will report to the nearest tardy station for documentation and to receive their pass to class.
  4. A tardy is defined as: a student not inside the classroom when the bell rings.
  5. At the principal's discretion, "Tardy Sweeps" can be announced. At that time, any tardy student will be assigned consequences, regardless of how many tardies have been accumulated.
  6. Tardy reports are pulled from Skyward on designated dates by AP Secretaries. Students will receive consequences for tardies — tardies are cumulative across all class periods.
  7. Tardy counts will reset at the end of the designated time frames as outlined by the administrator. (See following dates.)
  8. Failure to attend assigned consequences can result in further disciplinary actions.
  9. Parents and students are encouraged to check Skyward often in order to monitor student tardiness, attendance, and grades.
  10. Any questions regarding attendance/tardies can be directed to the Attendance Office at shsattendance@splendoraisd.org
  11. If a student is late due to the fault of the teacher, a pass will be accepted by the receiving teacher. The receiving teacher must also receive a communication (email/phone call) from the teacher alerting them to the student being en route to class.

Tardy Discipline Ladder

Please note: Tardy limits are calculated per individual class schedule.

  1. At 3 Tardies (to the same class): The teacher will send a communication home to parents or guardians.
  2. At 5 to 7 Tardies: The student is assigned 1 day of After School Detention.
  3. At 8 to 10 Tardies: The student is assigned 2 days of After School Detention.
  4. At 10 to 13 Tardies: The student is assigned 1 day of Saturday School.
  5. At 14 or More Tardies: Consequences are subject to administrative discretion.

Every 10 tardies (cumulative across all class periods) will count as 1 absence towards the 90% Compulsory Attendance Rule (seat time).

Tardy Station Locations/Flow:

Students still in the hallways after the tardy bell rings must report to the closest tardy station to collect their Tardy Pass.
